Our Synagogue has a long and rich history in building the Jewish Community of West Orange. We are the largest Orthodox Synagogue in Essex County, New Jersey, and our warmth spreads even further. Our Synagogue is a member of the Orthodox Union and we strive to fulfill the fundamental principles of Torah, Avodah, and Gemilut Chasadim. The Sephardic Community of Congregation AABJ&D
The early 1980s saw the creation of the Sephardic Community of Congregation AABJ&D. Comprised of a handful of families, the group met regularly in various classrooms in the Synagogue. When AABJ&D embarked on its second expansion, in the early 1990s, Rabbi Alvin Marcus strongly encouraged the Sephardim to take this opportunity to build a proper "home" for their minyan. Thanks to the tireless devotion, commitment and leadership of a group of committed families our beautiful Sephardic Wing was built. The strong connection to tradition and the desire to pass their customs and rituals onto the next generation has ensured the growth of the Sephardic Community. The Sephardic Minyan brings to our community a rich tapestry of traditions representing countries such as Iran, Morocco, India, Syria, Iraq, and Israel.
